The Challenge: Managing Speed Limit Reductions by Email
For years, the process of temporarily reducing speed limits in work zones was done largely through email. With Form 568 as the official channel, approvals and notifications were passed around via inboxes, often leading to confusion, lost communications, and delays. Coordinating with law enforcement, maintenance teams, and other stakeholders made this paper-based workflow inefficient and error-prone.
The Solution: A Centralized, Visual, and Digital Tool
Jonathan Woodworth, Traffic Engineer in Region 4, took the lead in addressing this problem. Partnering with colleagues at CDOT headquarters and Navjoy, he spearheaded the digitization of Form 568 within the NueGOV platform. The goal? Move the process out of email and into a trackable, web-based system that offered:
This new system ensures that key players—from law enforcement to operations—receive timely, accurate updates every time a temporary reduction is initiated.
Why It Matters: Transparency, Accountability, and Efficiency
By eliminating manual processes and centralizing data in NueGOV, Region 4 now operates with greater efficiency and public safety awareness.
Recognition and Results
This effort earned Jonathan Woodworth an award for outstanding business process improvement. More importantly, it’s an example of how a thoughtful digital solution—like NueGOV—can turn a long-standing bureaucratic burden into a modern, trackable process that supports smarter decision-making.
